Created during the harrowing months that followed hurricanes Irma and María's destructive path through Puerto Rico in 2017, Ciénaga's ‘Isla Eterna’ presents listeners with an immersive experience inspired by events surrounding both storms.

The album samples hurricane winds, storm rains, generators, radio transmissions and more, mixing home and field recordings into compositions made on battery powered recorders during the second longest recorded blackout in the history of the planet.

Ciénaga is an alias adopted by Puerto Rican artist José Iván Lebrón Moreira, who also released his second solo album as Moreira, titled ‘Fin del deseo’ in 2017. Active in the local music scene since 2011, he also plays the drums in the Puerto Rican psych-rock band Las Abejas and runs a practice and recording space in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico known as La Colmena. Ciénaga marks his first foray into more experimental, ambient sounds.

‘Isla Eterna’ was released as a digital download through local indie label Discos Diáspora on September 19th, 2018, on the eve of the first anniversary of Hurricane María. It can be downloaded and streamed from Discos Diaspora's Bandcamp page or through most popular music services. This CSD edition will mark the first physical release for the album.

Ciénaga es la nueva identidad musical del artista puertorriqueño José Iván Lebrón Moreira (Moreira, Las Abejas).

‘Isla Eterna’ es una experiencia auditiva informada por fuerzas naturales fuera de nuestro control. Es la memoria fracturada de una experiencia colectiva. Es una invitación a la introspección a un año del paso de los huracanes Irma y María sobre Puerto Rico.

Las fotografías e imágenes incluídas en el proyecto fueron tomadas y creadas por artistas puertorriqueñ@s luego que estas dos tormentas arrasaran con gran parte del Caribe en septiembre del 2017.
